Interesting chameleon behaviour!

Did you know that chameleons eat their shed skin?

Chameleons, like most reptiles shed their skin while growing. But unlike snakes that shed their skin and leave it lying around, chameleons eat the skin that they shed!

The skin is a good source of calcium and minerals, which sometimes lacks in their diet. Geckos are also known to do this.

Below are some photos of a Flap-necked Chameleon (Chamaeleo dilepis) from Hluhluwe, enjoying it's tasty skin!

They really are remarkable animals!
